The Sufferfest - Chrysalis Review

The Sufferfest, my favorite trainer workout/video company, has a new, super awesome brick video out this week (Chrysalis) for all the triathletes/duathletes! I took it for a test drive...

Not surprisingly, I loved it! Unlike the long bike followed by run typical brick workout, you bike-run-bike-run-bike-run-bike-run (8:00 on the bike, 4:00 on the run). Need to work on those transitions? This is the workout for you.
The footage was awesome - there's even open water swim footage at the beginning to light your inner psychotic triathlete on fire (you're instructed to watch the swim from the first bike leg - but now I have visions of sufferfest video goggles that I can take in the pool with me...). Then starts the bike-run-bike-run madness. 30 seconds of transition time, so have your gear ready. It was plenty of time for me, although I definitely recommend lock laces on your shoes. Even with a slow-starting treadmill, I got on and off in time. Hopefully you're skilled enough to keep your eyes on the video while scrambling off your bike and onto the treadmill, because the transition footage delivers in true Sufferlandrian fashion, with the appropriate amount of friendly beratement encouragement. While transitioning, you will also be treated to some opera music. Thanks David McQuillen! Now in all my races I'll be hearing "Mio Babbino Caro" in my head as I run around like a chicken with my head cutoff whilst peeling off a wetsuit/trying to find my bike.
It was super fun having run footage from a tri to look at while on a treadmill. This was possibly my happiest treadmill workout EVER. Oh, and you get to chase a ghost, almost get runover by a steamroller, a dragon, butterfly, and hamster make an appearance, and the phrase "power wildebeest" is used. I can attest to the fact that if you respond to your boyfriend's "how are you?" text mid-workout with "POWER WILDEBEEST!!!!" he will be very, very confused.
If you're already a Sufferfest fan, Chrysalis will not disappoint - I can't think of anything else that can make me laugh while feeling like my legs are on fire (masochist much?) And if you're new to the vids and enjoy getting your a#$ kicked, you're in for a treat - welcome to Sufferlandria!
